Getting Your Camper Ready for Winter Checklist

For those of us who love camping, this time of the year always bring mixed feelings. The changing leaves, colder nights, and for about half the country it is time to start thinking about putting our campers and RVs away for the winter. While some lucky campers can enjoy year-round camping, many of us (including those of us at Mouse D-Fence®) are getting ready to say goodbye to the camping season.

As an avid camper myself, I know that putting the camper away involves more than just parking it in the driveway or at a storage facility and covering it up. A little preparation now can save you from a lot of headaches when spring rolls around:

✓ Protect Your Camper from Mice

The first thing I think about is keeping mice out. Mice climb camper tires and use them to reach opening in the undercarriage where they make their way inside and can cause considerable damage.

That is why we developed Mouse D-Fence® aluminum tire guards. These will give you the layer of protection that poison, traps, or repellents can't provide. The tire guards are easy to install, making this perhaps the fastest step on the checklist!

✓ Winterize the Water System

Freezing temperatures can cause expensive damage to pipes, faucets, and water pumps. Make sure the plumbing is properly drained and winterized according to your camper manufacturer's recommendations,

✓ Give the Inside a Good Cleaning

Remove all food, crumbs, and anything else that might draw unwanted visitors. If you have Mouse D-Fence® aluminum tire guards, mice and rats will be unable to access your camper, but removing the temptation will help keep them away from your storage area.

✓ Check for Openings

It is a good idea to inspect your roof, seals, windows and vents for openings where cracks and tears can allow water to get inside and cause mold problems.

It is good to make a checklist to follow so nothing gets over looked. A little effort before winter sets in can make a big difference.

Here's to a safe winter for our campers and a spring filled with new adventures and plenty of campfires!
